The Arctic is not a white desert but a living territory: an “inhabited desert” teeming with communities, work, and traditions that persist and evolve alongside a changing planet.
The culmination of nine years of research, this trilogy challenges the conventional gaze by traversing three Norwegian geographies and three distinct ways of living at the margins. We encounter the Sámi people in Finnmark, striving to preserve their identity; we navigate the Lofoten Islands, where fishermen’s lives depend on ancient rituals and fragile balances; and we reach the Svalbard archipelago, the last frontier where human presence itself becomes a boundary, and Ny-Ålesund, the northernmost settlement on Earth: a geopolitical laboratory where an international community measures the daily cost of the climate crisis.

Durante l’edizione 2026 di MIA Photo Fair BNP Paribas, Fondazione Rava sarà presente con la mostra : “Artico: Un deserto abitato”. Un viaggio visivo che esplora la resilienza delle comunità ai confini del mondo, intrecciando la difesa dell’ambiente alla tutela dei diritti umani.
Da 25 anni la Fondazione opera in contesti di crisi accanto a donne e bambini; oggi, attraverso l’obiettivo di @valentina_tamborraph, questa missione si trasforma in un dialogo visivo necessario su ambiente e diritto a esistere.
